FAQ

You've got questions, we've got answers

The Basics: dripdrop Terminology
What is dripcoin?

Great question! dripcoin is our in-app currency. In other words, it is dripdrop money. When families make a Trade with dripcoin as a Reward, parents enter their credit card to pay for it. Kids may then exchange their dripcoin for popular gift cards, such as Xbox, Nintendo, Amazon, H&M, and Lululemon. They may also choose to use their dripcoin to purchase a dripdrop Shop card that may be spent on our online shop for custom dripdrop merch.

What is a Life Pass?

Life Passes are rewards in the Real World, like: eating a treat, having a chore-free evening, what game to play on Game Night, choosing a meal for dinner, + more!

What is a Time Pass?

Time Passes are rewards that involve choosing what to do with free time, such as: spending time with friends or family members, having alone-time, choosing more screen-time, + more

What is a Life Upgrade?

Life Upgrades are activities and lessons that can change the trajectory of your kids' lives. Besides creating more of a balance right now in your kids' lives between time spent online and time spent in the Real World, these life skills and healthy habits will set them up for future success.

Here's another way to think about it. Kids and teens play characters in video games all the time that have the opportunity to 'level up' by completing certain challenges. dripdrop does the same thing, but lets your kids level up in the Real World.

dripdrop has two types of Life Upgrades: Life Lessons and Life Challenges.

Life Lessons are video lessons that include topics such as meditation, cooking, strength training, and more. They are presented as short, fun videos taught by our "Life Experts"—individuals who have a particular expertise or unique perspective on a topic, such as Olympic athletes on believing in yourself, therapists on how to tackle procrastination, or award-winning singer-songwriters on how to write a song.

Life Challenges are activity-based tasks such as household chores, hygiene habits, cooking, and more.

What is a Life Challenge?

A Life Challenge is a Life Upgrade that focuses on life skill activities such as household chores, hygiene, cooking, and more. Though we understand some Life Challenges are more fun than others, so we hope to curve this by using our reward system!

What is a Life Lesson?

Life Lessons are video lessons that include topics such as meditation, cooking, strength training, and more. They are presented as short, fun videos taught by our "Life Experts"—individuals who have a particular expertise or unique perspective on a topic, such as Olympic athletes on believing in yourself, therapists on how to tackle procrastination, or award-winning singer-songwriters on how to write a song.

Each Life Lesson has a learn video and an challenge or action step.

What is a Life Expert?

Life Experts are people with a unique view or personal experience with subjects that help kids level-up their lives. Psychologists sharing how to deal with anxiety; Olympians on how to achieve good habits to achieve your goals; award-winning singer-songwriters showing walking through how to write a song to express yourself.

What is Life?

Life is what you make of it! It ebbs and flows; has its ups and downs—we've all been there. That's why we made dripdrop: to make life a little bit easier on the parent-child dynamic, so there is less of a push-and-pull and more of a team effort. We love you. Hang in there.

How to use the dripdrop app
How do I log in to the dripdrop app?

Right now, dripdrop is by invite only. If you want to request an invite, please email us at llama@dripdrop.gg.

Once you have been signed up by one of our team for dripdrop, you will be sent instructions on how to log in for the first time.

If you have logged in previously, simply go to play.dripdrop.gg to log in again.

How do I make a Trade?

On the home page, add a reward and a Life Upgrade of your choice by using the "+" icons. You can change the reward or Life Upgrade by pressing the "-" icons, and adding a new one.

Lock in the trade, and choose who you want to send the trade to—parents can send trades to kids, kids can send trades to parents.

Then, send the trade! Woohoo!

Things to think about while trading:
Make sure to communicate (in real life, "IRL") your trade, to work out a deal.
Don't be afraid to ask for what you want. dripdrop is here to help, but at the end of the day, it's all about talking to each other.
Don't come in with a fixed mindset—it's good to stay flexible with asks and takes.
Listen carefully to what everyone has to say; good listening and understanding can often lead to better deals (we love a WinWin situation)!

What type of Rewards can be earned in the dripdrop app?

There are two categories of Rewards that can be earned in-app: monetary and non-monetary. Monetary Rewards are given in the form of dripcoin—our in-app currency. Non-monetary Rewards are called Life Passes and Time Passes.

Life Passes are Rewards in real life ("IRL"), like: eating a treat, having a chore-free evening, what game to play on Game Night, choosing a meal for dinner, + more!

Time Passes are Rewards that involve choosing what to do with free time, such as: spending time with friends or family members, having alone-time, choosing more screen time, + more.

dripcoin can be spent in our in-app shop. There is a lot to choose from—gift cards for your fav brands (like: Amazon, Apple, Xbox, Playstation Store, + more), as well as a dripdrop Shop Card which can be spent on dripdrop merch at shop.dripdrop.gg

Custom Rewards can also be selected in-app and defined within your family. Make Trades for cash or a special trip, event or gift. Your imagination is the only limit!

My family doesn't want to make monetary trades, can we still use the dripdrop app?

Definitely! There are lots of non-monetary Rewards to choose from. We have Time Passes—spending time with family, friends, screen time, or some coveted alone time—and Life Passes for real world Rewards like being able to indulge in a treat, having a chore-free evening, what movie to watch on Family Movie Night, + more!

How do I make a custom trade for something not offered in the app?

In the future, we will be adding the ability to make completely custom Life Challenges and/or Rewards. Until then, we have three custom challenge options: Easy Challenge, Medium Challenge, or Hard Challenge. We also have the option to use a Custom Reward. You may use the 'Add a message' feature to define the details of your challenge or reward.

Now it's time to put on your negotiation hat and discuss what a fair Trade & Reward should be. Good luck!

What is "proof" and why do kids need to send it?

Proof lets kids show parents (or grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc) that they have completed a Life Upgrade. It shows that they have held up their end of the Trade and it's time to unlock the Reward—if they did a good enough job.

How does a kid submit proof?

After launching a Life Upgrade in-app and completing the necessary activities, a kid can select the Proof tab and then click the "send proof" button. They will be given several options to prove they completed the Life Upgrade. Options include sending a written note, copying and pasting a supporting link (ex., if they posted their proof on social media), uploading or taking a photo, and uploading or recording a video.

How does a kid know what type of "proof" to submit?

When a Life Lesson is completed, the Life Expert will tell kids in the Action video the type of activity to do and/or the type of proof to give to their parents parents. For example, "show your parents a photo of the mood board you created," or "take a picture of your clean room."

When a Trade is made involving chores or other Life Challenges, families should decide together about the type of proof that is expected.

Here are some suggestions:
Photo or video proof works best for activities like: making your bed, playing sports with friends, doing a workout, packing your lunch, finishing your homework, etc.
A selfie-video may also be a great way to share any new insights that were gained from a Life Lesson.
If a Life Expert asks a kid to answer questions, then sharing written answers might be a good choice. Be sure to include the questions that were asked, so everyone understands the context.

Who determines if the proof submission is good enough to be approved?

It's up to a parent (or grandparent, guardian, etc) to determine if the proof is approved and the Reward can be released.

Note: effective communication between kids and parents is key for Life Challenges—activity based activities such as chores. It should be make clear at the time a Trade is created what "completion" will look like, and what type of proof will be accepted. Decide ahead of time whether a "clean room" includes organizing the closet too, in addition to vacuuming and tidying up. Is a photo ok, or do you want a video so you have a record of all the nooks and crannies? It's up to you!

How does a parent approve (or reject) a proof submission?

When a kid submits proof, the parent will get a notification in-app. The parent can open the notification from the Alerts page. The notification pop up will show the proof submission—be it written text and/or a link, photo or video.

To approve the proof submission, the parent can click the thumbs up icon located below the proof. The parent will then be asked to provide feedback before unlocking the Reward. Parents can write an encouraging note or send a recorded video or link. Providing encouragement positively reinforces the development of good habits, personal development, and a more balanced life.

To reject the proof submission, the parent can click the thumbs down icon located below the proof. A parent will be required to provide guidance on how to achieve approval and a 'Try again' message will be sent to the kid, who will have the opportunity to resubmit their proof.

How does a parent know if their kid met the requirements of a Life Lesson?

Parents can review the Life Lesson video content and action steps kids are asked to do as part of a lesson. On the My Trades page, parents can click through from the Active Trades section to watch a Life Lesson. This helps provide the context for assessing a proof submission.

When is the Reward released?

The Reward is unlocked when a Trade is complete—at the moment when a parent approves their kid's proof submission.

May I make a new Trade using a Life Upgrade that has been done before?

Yes! After a Lesson or Challenge has been completed, you can Trade for them again, as many times as you want—as long as both parties are okay with it!

Couldn't parents have the wool pulled over their eyes by kids?

Yes, the same way they can in real life.dripdrop isn't a foolproof system, nor is it attempting to be one.

dripdrop doesn't aim to control your kids. We want to inspire and motivate them by creating a system that gives them access to the things they have told us they really, really want—screen time, gift cards, some control over what they do and how they spend their time.

We are creating a system that is WinWin for both parents and kids, enabling them to work together respectfully so that both sides can get their needs met. We believe the carrot is more effective than the proverbial stick.

We believe that by providing the incentives that kids really want—and giving them a way to have some control over the negotiation process—that kids will be motivated to take action in areas they may not otherwise. dripdrop builds in both extrinsic rewards kids indicate they want (ex., monetary gifts, screen time passes, etc) and intrinsic rewards (ex., recognition, parent attention, positive reinforcement, and parental approval.
